ABOUT THE CLUB

The Club sports ground was initiated in 1986 when Burridge Sports and Social Club purchased the 10½ acres of farmland. Burridge Cricket Club was closely involved in the project, and itself financed the laying of the cricket square on the ground, which led to the first games being played in 1990.

In the early years the ground required much work, with the newly levelled soil requiring hours of stone removal, and temporary changing facilities being used. But gradually the standard increased, and the addition of practice nets, sight screens and score box made the ground a popular place to play.

The improvement of the ground also coincided with the rise in standard of the teams, such that by 1996 the 1st XI had reached Hampshire Division 1, and followed this by winning promotion to the Southern League, the premier division in the region. In both these divisions, the ground standards are marked by both the opposition and the match umpires, and in 1997 the Club was awarded the prestigious Stan Foster award for the most improved ground.

The sports facilities offered at Burridge are now among the best in the area for which Burridge Sports and Social Club, whose vision over a decade ago created what can be seen today, can be rightly proud.
